Cultural heritage Cultural heritage

  • Cultural Weekend relaxation at the Palace of Arts, Opera House or Music Academy.
  • 1100 years as reflected in the cultural history of the country. (Hungary has accumulated a rich and diverse heritage in folk arts, music, fine arts and architecture over the centuries. We are glad to assist you discovering this whole world for you to suit your interests and time)
  • Culture and recreation at Lake Balaton. (Lake Balaton is the largest stretch of freshwater in Central Europe to be found in fabulous surroundings of a region well-known for its colourful traditional life. The lake offers sailing, fishing and cycling besides its refreshing water. It is surrounded by medieval castles, famous vineyards, cultural centres like Keszthely and Balatonfüred, or popular holiday resorts as Siófok.
  • Architectural tours e.g. named ‘Art Nouveau’. The turn of the 19th and 20th centuries brought about an economic and cultural upswing Hungary never experienced before. During this period magnificent public buildings were built, mostly in the dominant style of art nouveau. The masterpieces of our architects, like Károly Koós, Béla Lajtha and the ‘Hungarian Gaudi’, Ödön Lechner were following different trends but their works still equally amaze professionals and lay observers alike.
  • Musical history tours (the home museum of Ferenc Liszt in Pest, the so called ‘Old Academy of Music’, and the house of Béla Bartók displaying the maestro’s memorabilia, the ‘Broadway of Budapest’ with the ‘New’ Academy of Music, the Operetta Theatre and so on. They provide real delicacies for those interested in cultural history. We organise concerts for groups at the locations that inspired the music of the respective composers.
  • World heritage walks about the cosmopolitan palaces of Andrássy Avenue, the medieval and baroque houses of Buda Fort and Castle, or cruises on the river Danube along UNESCO world heritage landscapes.
  • Tours revealing the history of spas from Roman times through the Turks to recent days. (Ancient Romans had built spas in both the civilian township and the military camp of Aquincum. Their tradition was continued by the splendid Turkish baths still in use, and the network of spas built on the hot water springs of the Capital in the 20th century. The most peculiar ones are the renowned Gellért Spa with its artificial wave pool, and the grand, neo-baroque palace of the imposing Széchenyi Spa, with its fun pools, among century-old trees in the historical setting of City Park.)
  • Historical walks-about covering sights from historical times to today
  • Selective pilgrimages

Ecotourism Ecotourism

Head for nature! Hungary is a very exciting place for the lovers of Nature: we have from mountains to grasslands everything but the sea (if we do not count the Balaton the ‘Hungarian sea’, Central Europe’s largest warm-water lake). Ten National parks and several reserves, rare and endangered species, bird watchers’ paradises, country walks and tours by bike, narrow gauge railway journeys, or boat trips.

World heritage World heritage

Nine of Hungary’s rich cultural or natural treasures have been listed world heritage sites so far: the dripstone caves of Aggtelek – the Buda castle with the Danube view and the Andrássy Avenue in Budapest – the Busó-walking in Mohács – the Fertő lake – the traditional village and the fort of Hollókő – the puszta at Hortobágy – the pre-Christian heritage of Pécs – the 1100 year old Benedictine abbey of Pannonhalma – and the wine region of Tokaj-Hegyalja. These cover almost the whole territory of the country and are so characteristic and diverse that they encourage us to make a tour of Hungary on the bases of world heritage sites.
